easiest update yet.

A while back I found these cheap magazine files at Ikea to house the over abundance of magazines we have laying around.  When we first moved into our house we subscribed to "Mother Earth News" and "Better Homes & Gardens" and while these magazines may be a little out dated, the information and ideas will come in handy for years to come - plus they're fun to look at!  Anyways, we have a lot of magazines on hand.

For the past year or so these files have been living on the counter top of our desk/bookshelf in the living room.  While they're not too unsightly, the white was a bit stark compared to the more neutral and dark furniture in the room.  When I came across this idea on pinterest, I knew I had to give it a try.

I had been looking for more ways to display photos from this shoot last fall, and right away jumped to this image.

Before printing, I lined up my 5 magazine files and measured to get an approximate size to print my photo. Surprisingly the dimensions were a perfect size for printing, a standard 12x18" print would do.  I printed a simple poster at Office Depot for a whopping $.49!  The photo is printed in color, but on standard paper - nothing photo quality.

Once home with my photo, I used my quilting tools {I know mom, I'm not supposed to cut paper with my rotary cutter - but it was SO easy!} and cut the photo into 3 1/2" strips.  I then used mod podge to glue the strips to the cardboard magazine files.  Once it was dry, I put two layers of mod podge on top to seal, rounding the edges over the corners and waiting for each layer to dry in between.

It's by no means perfect, but I am in love with it!  And who can complain about such a cheap project?  {Between the Ikea magazine files for $1.99, the print for $.49, and the mod podge I had on hand, this project cost a total of $2.48!}  I also love that over time I won't feel bad about covering it up with another more recent picture - maybe a sweet newborn shot of the little guy like this!

our travel book. finally.

It's been 2 years, 3 months, and 8 days since returning from our Southeast Asia trip, but the memories of this extraordinary time are as vivid as they were the day we experienced them.

Upon returning, life sped up way faster than we would have liked, and to be honest, we never fully debriefed from not only the 13 months we spent living in Taiwan, but the 48 days we lived out of our backpacks and visited 6 countries in Southeast Asia as well.

I began this project nearly a year ago, and finally finished it a few weeks ago.  The months and months of sifting through thousands of photos was totally worth it.  At 178 pages and including nearly 500 photos from our travels, this project was no small feat, but now that this books adorns our coffee table it allows us to revisit those travels all over again.

It's incredible to see OUR photos in print.  The day our book arrived, Dan and I sat on the couch looking through our book,  re-living our travels once again.

We both have so much to say about this trip and over time I'd like to add notes right on the pages with a simple black sharpie.  I think these notes from both Dan and I will make this book even more special.

{There are way too many favorite pages to share, you'll just have to stop by for a visit and take a look for yourself!}

We can't wait to share this with family and friends who come to visit as it's the first time in two years we've shared most of these photos!

For more about our travels check out these posts.

little blessings.

Say hello to baby Amelia!

Born this Tuesday, she is the newest Heironimus!

We were so excited to meet little Amelia and congratulate her little family that we visited just hours after her birth.

"We have to go visit our future daughter-in-law" -Dan =)

Avery is such a great big sister already.

"Don't cry baby Amelia, it's okay!" - Avery

If you remember, I've had the opportunity to take their family pictures for the past two years {check them out here and here}.  A few weeks ago Heather asked me to take some maternity photos for her as there was a chance little Amelia would have an earlier than expected arrival, check them out here.

This family has been such a blessing to Dan and I, especially over the past year.  It's such a joy to watching Miss Avery grow and change, and can't wait to watch little Amelia grow up with our little guy!

Last night we went back to the hospital to visit with Heather and Nathan.  Our friendship grows deeper with each interaction and we're so thankful to have friends who are real and open with us about this pregnancy and parenting business!

Thanks friends, for sharing your little ones with us, the love we have for these girls is like none we've ever experienced, what a blessing!

favorite photos

After completing the photo collage in our living room and realizing that we didn't have any up-to-date pictures of the two of us, I decided to ask our friend Hannah to take some photos for our anniversary.

I am beyond thrilled with how they turned out, and so thankful to have these pictures of us on our own property with our precious pup!!

All photos by Hannah Elizabeth Photography.  Check out her info here.

We're still here...

Haven't been on the blog nearly as much as I would have liked these past few weeks, but life has been a little chaotic with school starting, bringing home pup, and working feverishly on the house in order to get as much as we can done before winter.

If you haven't been following along, I've also started a part-time photography business in the Fort Wayne area.  I'm super excited to offer my first Mini-Sessions this weekend at Salomon Farm.  Check out the details here.

And just for fun, a few pics of the pup.  The weather has been beautiful the past few evenings and after a day inside, Miss Maggie enjoyed running off some steam in the back yard!

How can you resist those eyes!

Too much energy to sit still for pictures!

A little blurry, but I love my little family!

Family Photo Shoot // the Heironimi

It's always fun to hang out with the heironimi.  It's hard to believe it's been a year since I took their last family photos.  So much fun to see how little Avery has changed -  a little more challenging to shoot a 2 year old!

Check out more of their photos here, on my new photography blog.

Senior Photo Shoot // Amanda

Amanda is another cousin of mine who will be a senior this coming year at Northrop High School.  I was honored to take her Senior photos last week.  We tried to beat the heat by taking these in the evening, and I think we lucked out with a lovely breeze, cooler temperatures, and beautiful light.

Check out more of their photos here, on my new photography blog.

April Insta-love

Totally loving the {new} Instagram app for Android.  I'm finding that I capture way more photos of our everyday lives this way.  Looking forward to a monthly wrap up of my favorites each month!

Can you believe tomorrow is MAY!?!?
Hello Birthday Month!

Rock the Shot April Challenge

This month's photo challenge at Rock the Shot {www.rocktheshotforum.com} is "water".  I knew right away what photo I'd be submitting.  I've been in love with these photos of Brooke from last fall.  I had so much fun photographing her, she has such a great personality and is willing to do just about anything.  Because of that, we got some really fun shots, like this one of her playing in the splash pad at Memorial Park.  I love how it captures her carefree, spontaneous, fun-loving personality all in one shot!

Interested in seeing more "water" challenge submissions?  Head on over to Rock the Shot and check 'em out!

sneak peak

Today's task is not tackling that spring break to-do list, but instead tackling a fun photo project I've been thinking about for the past few weeks. {after seeing this one}

I mentioned recently that while traveling Southeast Asia we took over 3,000 photos {3,352 to be exact}.
When we first returned to the states, I was eager to sort through the photos, to create slideshows of our most memorable moments and share our travels here and here and here.  I only got through day 15 of our 48 day trip, never even touching the photos from the last three countries we visited.  Somehow in the craziness of moving home, job searching and starting a new position, along with house hunting and finally buying our first home, these photos have been on the back burner for over a year.

Until now.  Now have the time and energy, along with the motivation and excitement to sift through these photos and sort out our favorites.  Now I'm trying to fit those photos into a measly 440 page book.  Now I'm up for the challenge!

the Heironimi

This morning I spent some time hanging out with friends of ours taking some family photos for them.  What do you think?

I LOVE Avery's face!!

"Nathan, smile!"

I love Heather's face in this one!

Where's Avery?!

There she is!

I think this is my favorite picture of the morning!

Thank you, Heironimus' for a fun morning!!
You have one stinkin' cute little girl!
